How to Choose a Potty Training Seat
There are lots of different potty training seats on the market that your youngster can choose. If you're not sure which training potty is best for you and your child, do some comparison shopping to see what is out there. You can find standalone potty training seats that sit on the floor, as well as potty toppers that fit right on top of the adult toilet. You can even find standalone kids potties that convert to potty toppers.
Your child's input is crucial when it comes to choosing a potty training seat. Some children prefer a floor potty, while others like sitting on the adult toilet with the help of potty toppesr. Your toddler should help you choose which seat to buy. If your little one has favorite cartoons, themes or colors you can encourage them to use a potty that features them. There are even potty chairs that play music and lights when used. If this seems a bit extreme for you, there are plenty of non-musical chairs your child is sure to like. For some kids, simple is best. A basic white potty chair or potty seat for the toilet may be a good choice.
One important thing to look at when shopping for a potty is ease of cleanup. As a parent your job will be to empty and clean the potty, so choose a model that makes it easy to do so. When shopping for a potty, you may want to pick up accessories such as a potty training doll or potty training video. At the least, an informative book on the subject can be of great help to you. You can find all these supplies on this site, or anywhere baby and toddler merchandise is sold.
The potty training seat you select should be comfortable for your child. If they are reluctant to use it, try sitting them down with a book every few hours and asking them to try to go without pressuring or demanding. If your child complains and wants to get up, let them.
Confused about when to start potty training? Most pediatricians agree that children train at different ages. Some may start as young as 18 months and some are as old (or older) than 36 months when they finally master the art of potty training.
The most important thing to remember when you're potty training a toddler is that you're not in competition with any other family. The second most important thing to remember is that your child is going to be in control of how fast he or she learns. Your little one may not want to live up to the expectations of family and friends. The process will be a lot easier and more fun if you can let he or she decide when they're ready.
