How to Potty Train a Boy

Is potty training a boy harder than it is for girls? Many parents swear that it's true. But using the right approach can make a huge difference. The most important thing is to make sure your little one is ready for potty training. Most experts will tell you the average age for baby toilet training is between 18 and 36 months. However, boys tend to fall toward the later end of the continuum. So try to stay patient until you see indications that your little boy is willing to learn to use the potty.

Does your son stay dry for at least two hours? He may be ready for potty training. Does he show any curiosity about the big potty, or seem interested in wearing big boy, potty training pants? That's another sign. If your little one tries to imitate his dad or older siblings in the bathroom - that's when you know he's ready to be a potty training boy.

Some boys like the potty toppers that fit on the adult potty. It's easier on mom and dad, too, since there's no clean-up. These seats also usually have handles so your child feels more secure, and guards to keep what belongs in the toilet, in the toilet.
