When To Start Potty Training

Most experts consider the average age to start baby potty training is between approximately 18 and 36 months of age. But most toddlers don't read the experts' books, and will decide for themselves when they're ready. Occasionally a youngster might be willing to be trained earlier than eighteen months of age, and some might not be ready until after three years old.

The main thing is absolutely not to force your toddler before they're completely ready. This tends to increase the time and effort required dramatically. Your toddler may reject any attempts to toilet train for quite a while if pushed .

So how can you tell when to start potty training? First, have a nice casual talk about toilet training with your child. If they appear fascinated or eager, they might be ready. Another way to tell is if they can stay dry for more than two hours, indicating a certain amount of bladder control.

If they seem to be interested, take them shopping. Have them choose their own personal potty, and as a further motivation let them also select their particular favorite underwear (even if they are not ready to wear them).

After that, you may want to get some recommendations from the pediatrician at your child's next visit. Pediatricians see everything concerning toilet training.

In addition, try getting a potty training DVD for you and the child. They are available for both children and parents.

If your toddler enjoys life-like dolls, there is actually a toilet training doll you might buy for them. Another method is to use a reward chart together with 3D stickers as well as prizes for maintaining good toilet habits. Many of these templates can be found on the internet or in potty training books.

Now that you know the typical potty training age, and why it isn't really that big of a deal, you can start thinking about potty training. In case you begin and then your child throws fits every time or whines, they're almost certainly still too young.

Essentially the most stress-free toilet training happens when your son or daughter is all set and really wants to make use of the potty. After they are adept, switch them into the underwear they chose and use training pants exclusively at bedtime until they are able to remain dry the entire night.
