An Introduction to Baby Toilet Training

When you're thinking about potty training toddlers for your child you should get the facts first. One thing to consider is that almost all children are not ready for potty training until they're 18 months to three years of age. Of course, each child differs and many may begin sooner than that or later.

Mothers often say that boys are harder than girls when it comes to baby toilet training. Often boys are ready for potty training later as opposed to sooner.

So if you understand that these are only guidelines, you can loosen up a little. If your youngster has reached three years old without completing baby potty training they're just not ready yet. Unfortunately there are lots of parents who go on and on how quickly and easily their child learned to use the potty. Don't let this bring you down - sooner or later all children learn to use the potty. A wise pediatrician once said they'll not head to college in diapers. So be sure you aren't pressuring yourself or your child to start baby toilet training too soon.

There are lots of baby toilet training books which can help. You can even find CDs and DVDs to use when you're potty training toddlers. However, which of them should you follow? It may be a better idea to ask your pediatrician what they suggest. Usually these medical professionals can provide you with booklets and a lot of ideas when it is time for baby potty training. Not only did they graduate from medical school, but also they have been through potty training toddlers many times, perhaps even at home. The majority of medical doctors will tell you to not worry should your child be overdue according to the standard potty training timetable.

Baby toilet training does not have to be nerve-racking. Your first move as soon as your son or daughter is older than 18 months is try to look for indicators of their readiness to use the potty. This might include expressing displeasure with dirty diapers as well as interest in the toilet seat.

You could probably entice your toddler into wanting to become potty trained by promising them brand new underwear. This may be a fantastic motivation, especially if they have an older sibling. Other motivators may be potty training charts that show their progress, or choosing their own potty training seat.

Even the most difficult of small children will ultimately become toilet trained. You need to watch out for some of the potty training problems that can come up. For example, sometimes toddlers are so intimidated by the potty or so afraid to make a mess in their training pants, they'll 'hold it' and avoid going to the potty at all.

If any of these kinds of problems arise your pediatrician should be there to help every step of the way.
